Description

Zesty Little Smokies are a delicious and easy appetizer perfect for parties and gatherings. This recipe combines cocktail sausages with a sweet and tangy sauce made from barbecue sauce, grape jelly, Dijon mustard, and a hint of spices, simmered to perfection for a flavorful bite-sized treat.

Ingredients

Little Smokies

  • 1 (14 oz) package cocktail sausages (Little Smokies)

Sauce

  • 1 cup barbecue sauce
  • 1/2 cup grape jelly
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Sauce: In a medium saucepan, combine barbecue sauce, grape jelly, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper if using. Stir well and heat over medium heat until the mixture is smooth and bubbly, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the Little Smokies: Add the cocktail sausages to the sauce and stir to coat them evenly with the sauce.
  3. Simmer: Reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan, and simmer for 15–20 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking, until the sausages are heated through and coated in the thickened sauce.
  4. Alternative Slow Cooker Method: Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker and cook on low for 2–3 hours. Stir occasionally and keep warm until ready to serve.
  5. Serve: Serve the zesty Little Smokies warm with toothpicks for easy snacking at parties and gatherings.

Notes

  • For a tangier twist, substitute chili sauce for the barbecue sauce.
  • Keep the Little Smokies warm in a slow cooker during parties for convenient serving.
  • Double the batch to serve a larger crowd.
