- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 5 large egg whites
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup whole milk, room temperature
- 1/4 cup sour cream, room temperature
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cream Butter and Sugar: In a large mixing bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add Eggs and Vanilla: Add the egg whites one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- Combine Wet and Dry: In a separate bowl, stir together the milk and sour cream. Add the flour mixture to the butter mixture in three additions, alternating with the milk mixture.
- Bake: Divide the batter between the pans and bake for 25–30 minutes until a toothpick comes out clean.
- Cool and Frost: Let the cakes cool before frosting with your choice of icing.
