Description

This refreshing Watermelon Lemonade combines the sweet juiciness of fresh watermelon with tangy lemon juice and a hint of mint simple syrup. Perfect for hot summer days, this vibrant drink is easy to prepare and serves a crowd with its bright, cooling flavors and balanced sweetness.

Ingredients

Mint Simple Syrup

  • 1 cup Water
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Fresh Mint Leaves, or more if desired

Watermelon Lemonade

  • 6-8 cups Cubed Fresh Watermelon
  • 3/4 cup Fresh Squeezed Lemon Juice
  • 1 cup Water

Instructions

  1. Make the Mint Simple Syrup: Combine the water and granulated sugar in a small saucepan over medium-high heat. Bring the mixture to a rolling boil, then reduce heat to low. Add the fresh mint leaves, stir, and allow to simmer for 5 minutes on low heat. Remove the saucepan from heat and let the mint steep in the sugar water for 5-10 minutes. Strain out the mint leaves and discard. Set aside and allow the mint simple syrup to cool completely.
  2. Prepare the Watermelon Juice: Place the watermelon cubes in the jug of a blender, working in batches if necessary depending on the size of your blender. Puree the watermelon until smooth.
  3. Strain the Puree: Place a large extra fine mesh strainer over a 6-cup glass measuring cup. Pour the pureed watermelon into the strainer to separate the juice from the pulp. Discard the pulp. Repeat this process until all watermelon has been blended and strained, aiming for about 3 1/2 to 4 cups of watermelon juice.
  4. Combine Ingredients: In a large pitcher, combine the strained watermelon juice, fresh lemon juice, and 1 cup of water. Stir to mix well.
  5. Add Sweetness: Pour in half of the cooled mint simple syrup and stir. Taste the lemonade and add additional mint simple syrup as needed to reach your desired level of sweetness.
  6. Chill and Serve: Refrigerate the watermelon lemonade until cold. Serve over ice for a cool and refreshing drink.

Notes

  • You can adjust the sweetness by adding more or less mint simple syrup to suit your taste preferences.
  • If you prefer a stronger mint flavor, increase the amount of fresh mint leaves in the syrup or steep longer.
  • For a bubbly twist, add sparkling water before serving.
  • Use ripe, seedless watermelon for best flavor and to reduce pulp.
  • Store leftover lemonade in the refrigerator and consume within 2 days for freshness.
