Description

Vegetable Samosa Pie is a delicious twist on traditional samosas, featuring a flavorful spiced vegetable filling encased in a buttery puff pastry crust. This recipe simplifies the process by turning individual samosas into a convenient pie format, perfect for a satisfying meal or snack.

Ingredients

    For the Filling:

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 2 medium potatoes, peeled and diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1 medium carrot, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt, or to taste
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
  • For the Crust:

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten (for brushing, optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. In a skillet, saute cumin seeds, onion, garlic, ginger, and spices. Add potatoes, carrots, salt, and water. Cook until tender.
  3. Stir in peas, lemon juice, and cilantro. Let the filling cool slightly.
  4. Roll out puff pastry, line pie dish, add filling, and bake until golden brown.
  5. Rest before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • You can use sweet potatoes or chopped spinach for variation.
  • For a vegan option, use plant-based puff pastry and skip the egg wash.
