Description

Indulge in the delightful taste of homemade Vanilla French Beignets with this easy-to-follow recipe. These light and fluffy fried pastries are perfect for breakfast or dessert, coated in a generous dusting of powdered sugar. Enjoy the classic flavors of New Orleans right in your own kitchen!

Ingredients

Dough:

  • 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast (1 packet)
  • 3/4 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (room temperature)
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for rolling)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (softened)

Additional:

  • vegetable oil for frying
  • powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Dissolve Yeast: In a large bowl, dissolve the yeast in warm water and let sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Mix Ingredients: Stir in sugar, milk, egg, vanilla extract, and salt. Gradually mix in the flour until a dough forms, then add the softened butter.
  3. Knead Dough: Knead the dough on a floured surface for 6–8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1–2 hours or until doubled in size.
  5. Roll and Cut: Roll the dough out on a floured surface, cut into squares, and let rise again.
  6. Fry: Heat oil to 350°F, fry beignets in batches until golden brown.
  7. Dust: Drain and dust with powdered sugar. Serve warm.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, add a dash of nutmeg or lemon zest to the dough.
  • Beignets are best eaten fresh but can be briefly reheated in a warm oven.
