Description
This classic Vanilla Buttercream Frosting is creamy, smooth, and easy to make. Perfect for frosting cupcakes, cakes, or cookies, it delivers rich vanilla flavor and a light, fluffy texture that holds its shape well for piping and decoration.
Ingredients
Buttercream Frosting Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 3 1/2 cups powdered sugar (sifted)
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 2–3 tablespoons heavy cream or milk
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Beat the Butter: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter with an electric mixer on medium speed for 2–3 minutes until smooth and creamy.
- Add Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar, 1 cup at a time, beating on low speed until fully incorporated to avoid a sugar cloud.
- Add Flavorings and Cream: Add the vanilla extract, salt, and 2 tablespoons of cream or milk to the mixture.
- Beat Until Fluffy: Increase the mixer speed to medium-high and beat for 2–3 minutes until the frosting is light and fluffy in texture.
- Adjust Consistency: If the frosting is too thick, add more cream, 1 teaspoon at a time, until the desired spreading or piping consistency is reached.
- Use or Store: Use immediately or store in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week. Let come to room temperature and re-whip before using to restore fluffiness.
Notes
- For a whiter buttercream, use clear vanilla extract and whip the frosting longer.
- This recipe yields enough frosting to frost 24 cupcakes or one 9-inch two-layer cake.
- Perfect for piping due to its stable texture and excellent shape retention.
