Ingredients
Brownie Batter
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 3/4 cup chopped pecans (divided)
Topping
- 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
- Additional melted chocolate or chocolate sauce, for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper or grease it well to prevent sticking.
- Mix butter and sugar: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
- Add eggs and vanilla: Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the vanilla extract. Whisk until the batter is smooth and slightly thickened.
- Incorporate dry ingredients: Sift together the cocoa powder, all-purpose flour, salt, and baking powder, then gently fold them into the wet mixture until just combined, taking care not to overmix.
- Add mix-ins: Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips and half of the chopped pecans, evenly distributing them throughout the batter.
- Pour and spread batter: Transfer the batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly to ensure uniform baking.
- Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 20–25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with moist crumbs but not wet batter.
- Drizzle caramel: Immediately after removing from the oven, drizzle the warm brownies generously with the caramel sauce and spread it evenly to cover the surface.
- Add toppings: Sprinkle the remaining chopped pecans evenly over the caramel layer, then drizzle with melted chocolate or chocolate sauce for extra richness.
- Cool and chill: Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan to set the topping, then refrigerate for 30 minutes to firm up before slicing for clean, neat pieces.
Notes
- For easier slicing, chill the brownies before cutting to prevent the caramel sauce from sticking.
- You can substitute pecans with walnuts if preferred.
- Use high-quality chocolate chips and caramel sauce for the best flavor.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
- To warm chilled brownies, microwave for 10-15 seconds before serving.
