Description

The Best Taco Recipe is a flavor-packed, customizable feast featuring juicy seasoned beef, fresh toppings, and zesty lime in every bite.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef (80/20 preferred)
  • 2 tbsp taco seasoning (homemade or store-bought)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 8 small corn or flour tortillas
  • 1/2 onion, diced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 lime, cut into wedges
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1/2 cup crumbled queso fresco or shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salsa or hot sauce, to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add ground beef and cook, breaking it apart, until browned, about 5–7 minutes. Drain excess fat.
  2. Stir in taco seasoning and 1/4 cup water. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until the beef is well coated and the liquid reduces. Set aside.
  3. Warm tortillas in a dry skillet for 30 seconds per side or microwave in a damp paper towel for 20 seconds.
  4. Assemble tacos by filling each tortilla with seasoned beef, then top with onion, cilantro, lettuce, cheese, and a squeeze of lime. Add salsa or hot sauce as desired.

Notes

  • Offer toppings like avocado, sour cream, or pickled red onions for variety.
  • Pair with Mexican rice, beans, or elote for a complete meal.
  • Use a taco holder or platter for fun presentation or set up a taco bar for guests.
  • Refrigerate leftover beef separately for up to 3 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
  • To reheat, warm in a skillet with a splash of water until hot; warm tortillas just before serving.
  • Substitute ground turkey, chicken, pork, or tofu for the beef if desired.
  • Use corn tortillas and check seasoning labels for a gluten-free version.
