Description

Tender, buttery sugar cookies with crisp golden edges and a hint of vanilla—perfect for any occasion. This classic recipe is easy to make, fun to decorate, and guaranteed to please every cookie lover.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar together until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  2. Beat in the egg and vanilla until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to wet ingredients, mixing until a soft dough forms.
  4. Form dough into a disc, wrap in plastic, and chill for at least 1 hour.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. Roll dough to 1/4-inch thick on a floured surface. Cut out shapes with cookie cutters and place on prepared sheets.
  7. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until edges are just golden. Let cool on pan briefly, then transfer to wire racks to cool completely.

Notes

  • For a festive finish, top with sprinkles, sanding sugar, or icing before or after baking.
  • To keep cookies soft, store with a slice of bread in an airtight container.
  • Freeze baked cookies or unbaked cutouts for up to 3 months.
