Description

This rich, fudgy chocolate cake is deeply decadent, incredibly moist, and easy to make with just one bowl. Perfect for birthdays, celebrations, or any time you need a show-stopping dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two 9-inch round cake pans with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Add eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla. Beat until smooth and combined.
  4. Carefully mix in the boiling water until fully incorporated. The batter will be thin.
  5. Divide batter evenly between prepared pans and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  6. Cool in pans for 10 minutes, then turn out onto wire racks to cool completely.
  7. Frost with your favorite frosting once completely cool and garnish as desired.

Notes

  • Top with chocolate curls, berries, or a dusting of cocoa powder for a beautiful finish.
  • Can be made into cupcakes (bake for 18–22 minutes) or a layered tower cake.
  • Store covered at room temperature for 3 days, or freeze unfrosted layers for up to 2 months.
