Description

The Best Fudgy Red Velvet Brownies are decadent, chocolatey, and rich with a tangy cream cheese swirl, perfect for any occasion or just satisfying your sweet tooth.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • Red food coloring
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 4 oz cream cheese (optional)
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line an 8×8-inch baking pan with parchment paper, leaving an overhang for easy removal.
  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Whisk in the cocoa powder until smooth, then remove from heat.
  3. Transfer the butter-cocoa mixture to a mixing bowl. Stir in granulated sugar and brown sugar, then whisk in eggs, one at a time, followed by vanilla extract.
  4. Add red food coloring to achieve your desired intensity of red. Stir until fully incorporated.
  5. Fold in the flour and salt until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
  6. If using the cream cheese swirl, beat together the cream cheese, granulated sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth, then dollop and swirl into the brownie batter.
  7. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  8. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • If you want a more intense red color, add more food coloring until you reach the desired shade.
  • For extra flavor and texture, fold in chocolate chips or chopped walnuts.
  • Leftover brownies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days, or frozen for up to 2 months.
  • Reheat brownies in the microwave for 10–15 seconds to enjoy a warm, gooey treat.
  • If you prefer, omit the cream cheese swirl for a simpler version of these red velvet brownies.
