Description

Tennessee Onions is a delicious and cheesy baked onion dish that makes for a perfect side dish, especially for Southern-inspired meals. Sweet onions are layered with a blend of three cheeses and seasonings, then baked to golden perfection.

Ingredients

Sweet Onions:

3 large sweet onions (such as Vidalia, sliced into 1/2-inch thick rings)

Butter Mixture:

1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)

Cheese Blend:

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese, 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese, 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Seasonings:

1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning, 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Garnish:

Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)

Others:

Nonstick cooking spray

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with nonstick spray.
  2. Prepare Onions: Separate the onion slices into rings and spread them evenly in the baking dish. Drizzle the melted butter over the onions.
  3. Prepare Cheese Mixture: In a bowl, combine the cheddar, mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper. Sprinkle the cheese mixture evenly over the onions.
  4. Bake: Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10–15 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden brown.
  5. Garnish and Serve: Garnish with chopped parsley, if desired, and serve hot.

Notes

  • This dish pairs beautifully with grilled meats or as a savory side for holiday dinners.
  • For a spicy kick, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes.
