Description

This Taco Pizza combines the flavors of a classic taco with the comforting appeal of pizza. Featuring seasoned ground beef, melted cheddar and mozzarella cheeses, and fresh toppings like diced tomatoes, lettuce, and black olives, this recipe delivers a delicious fusion meal that’s perfect for family dinners or gatherings. The pizza is baked to golden perfection and finished with optional garnishes like sour cream, jalapeños, cilantro, and crunchy tortilla chips.

Ingredients

For the Pizza Base and Sauce

  • 1 pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • ½ cup salsa or taco sauce

For the Taco Beef

  • 1 pound ground beef (or turkey for a lighter version)
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • ½ cup water

For the Cheese Topping

  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Fresh Toppings

  • ½ cup diced red onion
  • 1 cup diced tomatoes
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • ¼ cup sliced black olives

Optional Garnishes

  • Sour cream
  • Jalapeños
  • Chopped cilantro
  • Crumbled tortilla chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). If you’re using a pizza stone, place it inside the oven now so it heats up along with the oven.
  2. Cook the Ground Beef: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef until it is fully browned. Drain any excess fat. Then, add the taco seasoning packet and ½ cup water to the beef. Stir well and allow it to simmer for 5 to 7 minutes until the mixture thickens. Once done, set it aside.
  3. Prepare the Pizza Dough: Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to your preferred size and thickness. Transfer the rolled dough onto a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone. If you’re using store-bought dough that requires pre-baking, follow the package instructions accordingly.
  4. Assemble the Pizza: Spread a thin, even layer of salsa or taco sauce over the dough, leaving a small border around the edges. Evenly scatter the seasoned ground beef mixture on top of the sauce. Next, sprinkle the shredded cheddar and mozzarella cheeses evenly over the beef layer.
  5. Bake the Pizza: Place the pizza in the preheated oven and bake for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted thoroughly and the crust has turned a nice golden brown.
  6. Add Fresh Toppings: Remove the pizza from the oven and top it with diced tomatoes, shredded lettuce, diced red onions, and sliced black olives. For extra flavor and texture, optionally garnish with sour cream, jalapeños, chopped cilantro, and crumbled tortilla chips.
  7. Slice and Serve: Slice the pizza into pieces and serve immediately to enjoy the perfect blend of taco flavors and cheesy pizza goodness.

Notes

  • Use turkey instead of ground beef for a leaner, lighter version.
  • Preheating the pizza stone helps achieve a crispier crust.
  • Customize toppings based on your preference, such as adding avocado or switching out cheeses.
  • To make it spicier, add extra jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Store leftover pizza in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat in the oven for best texture.
