Description

This Sweet Sumac Salmon recipe is a delightful Middle Eastern-inspired dish that combines the tangy flavors of sumac with the sweetness of brown sugar, creating a perfect blend of savory and sweet. Baked to perfection, this sumac salmon is an easy and elegant dish for any night of the week.

Ingredients

Salmon Fillets:

  • 4 salmon fillets (6 oz each)

Seasoning:

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground sumac
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Serving:

  • lemon wedges and chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil.
  2. Mix Seasoning: In a small bowl, mix olive oil, brown sugar, sumac, garlic powder, paprika, cayenne (if using), salt, and black pepper into a paste.
  3. Prepare Salmon: Pat the salmon fillets dry with paper towels, then rub the sweet sumac mixture evenly over each piece.
  4. Bake: Place the salmon skin-side down on the prepared baking sheet. Bake for 12–15 minutes, or until the salmon flakes easily with a fork and is cooked to your preferred doneness.
  5. Serve: Serve hot, garnished with lemon wedges and fresh parsley.

Notes

  • Sumac adds a tangy, lemony flavor that balances the sweetness of the brown sugar.
  • For extra crispiness, broil the salmon for the last 2 minutes.
  • Serve with rice, couscous, or roasted vegetables.
