Ingredients
Potatoes
- 1 1/2 lbs baby potatoes
Seasoning & Sauce
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon melted butter
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 teaspoon hot sauce (like sriracha or your favorite)
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional for extra heat)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Garnish
- Chopped fresh parsley or chives for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for roasting the potatoes to a perfect crisp.
- Boil potatoes: Place the baby potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes or until they are fork-tender. Drain the water and allow the potatoes to cool slightly for easier handling.
- Smash potatoes: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the slightly cooled potatoes on the sheet and gently smash each potato with the bottom of a glass or a measuring cup until about 1/2 inch thick to create a flat surface for crispiness.
- Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, melted butter, honey, hot sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili flakes (optional), salt, and black pepper until well combined.
- Brush potatoes: Generously brush the seasoned sauce over each smashed potato, ensuring they are well coated for maximum flavor and browning.
- Roast potatoes: Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast the potatoes for 25–30 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. Roast until the edges are golden brown and crisp.
- Garnish and serve: Remove the potatoes from the oven, sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley or chives, and serve warm as a flavorful side or appetizer.
Notes
- Adjust the amount of honey and hot sauce to suit your preferred balance of sweetness and heat.
- These smashed potatoes pair wonderfully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or make a bold appetizer served with your favorite dipping sauce.
- For extra crispiness, ensure to flip the potatoes halfway through roasting.
