Description

Sweet Heat Smashed Potatoes are crispy roasted baby potatoes coated in a flavorful blend of honey, hot sauce, smoked paprika, and garlic powder. Perfectly tender inside with golden, crunchy edges, this side dish balances sweet and spicy notes for a bold, addictive flavor. Garnished with fresh herbs, these smashed potatoes make a fantastic accompaniment to grilled meats or a delicious appetizer on their own.

Ingredients

Potatoes

  • 1 1/2 lbs baby potatoes

Seasoning & Sauce

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1 teaspoon hot sauce (like sriracha or your favorite)
  • 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili flakes (optional for extra heat)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Garnish

  • Chopped fresh parsley or chives for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for roasting the potatoes to a perfect crisp.
  2. Boil potatoes: Place the baby potatoes in a large pot and cover with water. Bring to a boil and cook for 15–20 minutes or until they are fork-tender. Drain the water and allow the potatoes to cool slightly for easier handling.
  3. Smash potatoes: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the slightly cooled potatoes on the sheet and gently smash each potato with the bottom of a glass or a measuring cup until about 1/2 inch thick to create a flat surface for crispiness.
  4. Make the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together olive oil, melted butter, honey, hot sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, chili flakes (optional), salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  5. Brush potatoes: Generously brush the seasoned sauce over each smashed potato, ensuring they are well coated for maximum flavor and browning.
  6. Roast potatoes: Place the baking sheet in the oven and roast the potatoes for 25–30 minutes, flipping them halfway through the cooking time. Roast until the edges are golden brown and crisp.
  7. Garnish and serve: Remove the potatoes from the oven, sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley or chives, and serve warm as a flavorful side or appetizer.

Notes

  • Adjust the amount of honey and hot sauce to suit your preferred balance of sweetness and heat.
  • These smashed potatoes pair wonderfully with grilled meats, roasted vegetables, or make a bold appetizer served with your favorite dipping sauce.
  • For extra crispiness, ensure to flip the potatoes halfway through roasting.
