Ingredients
Pie Crust
- 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (2 crusts), softened
Cheesecake Filling
- 4 oz cream cheese, softened
- 2 tbsp powdered sugar
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Apple Filling
- 1 1/2 cups apple pie filling, chopped
- 1 tsp cinnamon
Frying and Finishing
- Vegetable oil (for frying; about 2 inches deep)
- 1 egg (for egg wash)
- 1 tbsp water
- Optional: cinnamon sugar (for coating)
Instructions
- Prepare the cheesecake filling: In a small bowl, combine the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until smooth and creamy, then set aside.
- Cut out pie crust circles: Roll out the refrigerated pie crusts on a lightly floured surface. Using a large biscuit cutter or a bowl approximately 4 inches in diameter, cut out circular pieces of dough for the pies.
- Fill the dough circles: Place about 1 teaspoon of the cheesecake filling and 1 tablespoon of chopped apple pie filling (mixed with cinnamon) in the center of each dough circle.
- Seal the pies: Fold each dough circle over to create a half-moon shape. Press the edges together firmly with a fork to seal. Prepare an egg wash by mixing one egg with one tablespoon of water and brush it on the sealed edges to help secure them.
- Heat oil and fry: In a deep skillet, heat vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) with about 2 inches of oil. Fry the pies in batches for 2 to 3 minutes per side or until they turn a golden brown color.
- Drain and coat: Remove the fried pies and drain them on paper towels to absorb excess oil. While still warm, optionally toss the pies in cinnamon sugar for extra flavor.
- Serve: Enjoy the pies warm or cooled. For an indulgent touch, drizzle with caramel sauce or dust with powdered sugar before serving.
Notes
- Ensure oil is at the correct temperature (350°F) for crispy, evenly cooked pies.
- Do not overfill the pies to prevent leakage during frying.
- Use a fork to firmly seal edges and brush with egg wash to avoid opening while frying.
- These pies are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in an oven to restore crispness.
- Optional toppings like cinnamon sugar, caramel sauce, or powdered sugar add extra sweetness and texture.
