Description

These Stuffed Cabbage Rolls are a comforting and hearty dish featuring a flavorful meat filling wrapped in tender cabbage leaves and baked to perfection in a savory tomato sauce.

Ingredients

For the Cabbage Rolls:

  • 1 large head green cabbage
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • ½ pound ground pork
  • 1 cup cooked white rice
  • 1 small yellow onion (finely chopped)
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 egg (lightly beaten)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano

For the Sauce:

  • 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
  • 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon white vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ cup water or beef broth

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Cabbage: Boil a large pot of water. Core the cabbage and boil for 5–7 minutes. Remove leaves, set aside to cool.
  2. Make the Filling: Combine beef, pork, rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and oregano in a bowl.
  3. Prepare the Sauce: Mix crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, vinegar, paprika, and water.
  4. Assemble: Place meat mixture in cabbage leaves, roll, and place in a baking dish.
  5. Bake: Pour sauce over rolls, cover, and bake at 350°F for 1 hour 30 minutes.

Notes

  • To save time, soften cabbage in the microwave.
  • These rolls freeze well—assemble and freeze before baking.
