Ingredients
For the Cabbage Rolls:
- 1 large head green cabbage
- 1 pound ground beef
- ½ pound ground pork
- 1 cup cooked white rice
- 1 small yellow onion (finely chopped)
- 2 cloves garlic (minced)
- 1 egg (lightly beaten)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
For the Sauce:
- 1 (28-ounce) can crushed tomatoes
- 1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
- 1 tablespoon tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ cup water or beef broth
Instructions
- Prepare the Cabbage: Boil a large pot of water. Core the cabbage and boil for 5–7 minutes. Remove leaves, set aside to cool.
- Make the Filling: Combine beef, pork, rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and oregano in a bowl.
- Prepare the Sauce: Mix crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste, sugar, vinegar, paprika, and water.
- Assemble: Place meat mixture in cabbage leaves, roll, and place in a baking dish.
- Bake: Pour sauce over rolls, cover, and bake at 350°F for 1 hour 30 minutes.

- To save time, soften cabbage in the microwave.
- These rolls freeze well—assemble and freeze before baking.
