Ingredients for Striped Candy Apples:
- 6 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), washed and dried thoroughly
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup light corn syrup
- 3/4 cup water
- 1/2 teaspoon gel food coloring (choose two contrasting colors)
- 1/2 teaspoon flavored extract (optional, such as cinnamon or vanilla)
- wooden sticks or lollipop sticks
- nonstick spray or parchment paper
Instructions
- Prepare Apples: Insert wooden sticks into the tops of each washed and dried apple. Set aside on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Make Candy Coating: In a saucepan, combine sugar, corn syrup, and water. Heat until sugar dissolves. Boil to 300°F without stirring. Remove from heat, add extract and first color of food coloring.
- Coat Apples: Dip apples in candy mixture, letting excess drip off. Place on sheet to set. Repeat process with second color after the first layer hardens.
- Set and Serve: Allow apples to set at room temperature before serving.
