Ingredients
Pudding Mixture
- 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups cold milk
- 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Whipped Cream
- 2 cups heavy whipping cream
Fruit & Layers
- 1 cup fresh strawberries, sliced
- 2 ripe bananas, sliced
- 1 box (about 12 oz) vanilla wafers
Instructions
- Make the pudding: In a large bowl, whisk together the instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk for about 2 minutes until the pudding thickens. Add the sweetened condensed milk and vanilla extract, and stir until fully combined.
- Whip the cream: In a separate bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream with an electric mixer until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped cream into the pudding mixture until smooth and creamy.
- Layer the pudding: In a trifle dish or a 9×13-inch baking dish, place a layer of vanilla wafers on the bottom. Top with a layer of sliced bananas, followed by a layer of sliced strawberries. Spoon half of the pudding mixture over the fruit and wafers.
- Repeat the layers: Add another layer of vanilla wafers, followed by the remaining banana and strawberry slices. Spread the rest of the pudding mixture on top, smoothing it with a spatula.
- Chill: Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours or overnight. This step allows flavors to meld and the wafers to soften for the perfect texture.
- Serve: Just before serving, optionally garnish with extra slices of strawberries or bananas. Scoop portions to enjoy this creamy, fruity dessert.
Notes
- Use ripe but firm bananas to prevent them from becoming mushy too quickly.
- For best results, chill the dessert overnight for the wafers to soften fully.
- Substitute heavy whipping cream with coconut cream for a dairy-free version.
- You can add chopped nuts or shredded coconut between layers for extra texture.
- To keep bananas from browning, lightly coat slices with lemon juice before layering.
