Ingredients
Shrimp and Vegetables
- 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 cups broccoli florets
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, grated
- 2 tablespoons green onions, chopped (for garnish)
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds (for garnish)
Sauce
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Oil for Cooking
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
- Prepare the sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the soy sauce, oyster sauce, honey, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and red pepper flakes. Set aside to let the flavors combine.
- Heat oil and cook shrimp: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the shrimp and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until they turn pink and opaque. Remove the shrimp from the skillet and set aside.
- Sauté broccoli: In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil and toss in the broccoli florets. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring occasionally, until they become tender-crisp but still retain crunch.
- Add aromatics: Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the skillet with broccoli. Cook for 1 minute, stirring constantly until fragrant and aromatic.
- Combine shrimp and sauce: Return the cooked shrimp to the skillet and pour the prepared sauce mixture over the shrimp and broccoli. Stir well to coat all ingredients evenly.
- Finish cooking: Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the sauce thickens slightly and everything is heated through.
- Garnish and serve: Remove from heat, garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds, then serve immediately for best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For spicier heat, increase the red pepper flakes or add fresh chili slices.
- You can substitute broccoli with other vegetables like snap peas or bell peppers for variation.
- If oyster sauce is not available, a combination of hoisin sauce and soy sauce can be used as a substitute.
- Serve with steamed rice or noodles to complete the meal.
- Ensure shrimp is fully defrosted if using frozen for even cooking.
