Description

Enjoy the delicious flavors of this Sticky Sesame Cauliflower recipe that features crispy baked cauliflower coated in a sweet and savory sesame sauce. Perfect as a vegetarian main course or side dish.

Ingredients

Cauliflower:

  • 1 medium head cauliflower, cut into florets
  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
  • 2 green onions, sliced (for garnish)

For the Sauce:

  • ¼ cup soy sauce
  • ¼ cup honey or maple syrup
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons water (for slurry)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated ginger

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Batter the cauliflower: In a large bowl, whisk together flour, water, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cornstarch. Dip cauliflower florets into the batter, then place on the baking sheet. Bake for 25–30 minutes until golden and crispy, flipping halfway through.
  3. Prepare the sauce: In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, honey, rice vinegar, ketchup, sesame oil, garlic, and ginger. Simmer, then add the cornstarch slurry and thicken for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Coat the cauliflower: Transfer baked cauliflower to a bowl, pour the sauce over it, and toss to coat. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions before serving.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add sriracha or red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • This dish pairs well with jasmine rice or noodles.
