Description

These sprøde vafler are light, buttery, and crisp waffles that deliver a golden crunch and subtle sweetness. A beloved Scandinavian treat perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup melted butter
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Bring all ingredients to room temperature. Preheat your waffle iron.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  3. In a separate bowl, beat eggs until frothy. Stir in melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract.
  4. Pour wet ingredients into dry ingredients and whisk gently until just combined (a few lumps are okay).
  5. Brush waffle iron with butter if not non-stick. Pour in enough batter to cover surface and cook until golden and crisp.
  6. Remove and cool on a wire rack. Repeat with remaining batter.

Notes

  • Serve with powdered sugar, fresh berries, whipped cream, or jam.
  • For extra crispness, use a hot waffle iron and avoid overmixing the batter.
  • Great for freezing — reheat in a toaster or oven to restore crispness.
