Ingredients
Ziti Pasta:
- 12 oz ziti pasta
Sauce:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 3 cloves garlic (minced)
- 5 oz fresh spinach (roughly chopped)
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 1 egg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
- 2 cups marinara sauce
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 375°F.
- Cook the ziti: Cook the ziti according to package directions until al dente, then drain and set aside.
- Sauté garlic and spinach: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Add spinach and sauté until wilted.
- Prepare ricotta mixture: In a large bowl, mix ricotta, egg, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes if using. Stir in the cooked spinach and garlic. Add the drained ziti and mix well.
- Assemble and bake: Spread marinara sauce in a baking dish, add ziti mixture, top with more sauce and cheeses. Bake covered, then uncovered until bubbly and golden.
- Serve: Let sit for 5 minutes before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute frozen spinach (thawed and drained) if fresh isn’t available.
- Add cooked sausage or mushrooms for extra protein and flavor.
