Description

This Spicy Ground Beef Taco Ring is a flavorful and fun-to-eat Mexican-inspired dish featuring seasoned ground beef and melted cheddar cheese wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. Perfect as an appetizer or main course, it’s easy to prepare and bake to golden perfection, served with sour cream, salsa, and fresh cilantro.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 packet taco seasoning (or 2 tablespoons homemade mix)
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup canned diced tomatoes with green chiles, drained
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Dough

  • 2 cans refrigerated crescent roll dough (8 oz each)
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)

For Serving

  • Sour cream
  • Salsa
  • Chopped cilantro

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
  2. Sauté Aromatics: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped onion and sauté until softened, about 3 minutes. Add minced garlic and cook for an additional 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook, breaking it up with a spoon until browned. Drain any excess fat if needed to keep the filling from being greasy.
  4. Season and Simmer: Stir in the taco seasoning packet, water, and drained diced tomatoes with green chiles. Let the mixture simmer for 3 to 4 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat and fold in the shredded cheddar cheese until melted and well combined.
  5. Assemble the Taco Ring: On the prepared baking sheet, arrange the crescent roll triangles in a circle with the wide ends overlapping in the center and the pointed ends facing outward, forming a ring shape. Spoon the beef mixture evenly around the center of the ring where the dough overlaps.
  6. Fold and Seal Dough: Fold the pointed tips of the crescent roll dough triangles over the filling and tuck them underneath the center to seal the ring nicely.
  7. Egg Wash: Brush the entire dough ring with the beaten egg to give it a glossy, golden finish once baked.
  8. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown and cooked through.
  9. Serve: Let the taco ring cool slightly before slicing. Serve with sour cream, salsa, and chopped cilantro for added flavor and freshness.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground beef with ground turkey or plant-based crumbles for a healthier or vegetarian alternative.
  • Add black beans, corn, or jalapeños to the beef mixture for extra texture and a spicier kick.
