Ingredients
Potatoes
- 4 large russet potatoes (or your favorite type of potato), cut into fries
Seasoning and Sauce
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
- 1 tbsp chili paste or sriracha (adjust to heat preference)
- 1 tbsp honey or maple syrup (optional for a touch of sweetness)
- Salt, to taste
Garnishes
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (toasted, for garnish)
- 1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (optional, for extra heat)
- 1-2 tbsp fresh cilantro, chopped (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) to ensure it reaches the perfect temperature for baking crispy fries.
- Cut Potatoes: Cut the potatoes into evenly sized fries so they cook uniformly.
- Toss Fries: Place the cut fries in a large bowl and toss with olive oil, salt, and a little pepper to season evenly.
- Bake Fries: Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet and bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.
- Prepare Sauce: While fries bake, mix sesame oil, minced garlic, soy sauce, chili paste or sriracha, and honey in a small bowl for a spicy, savory coating.
- Toss Fries in Sauce: Remove the fries from the oven and immediately toss them with the prepared spicy garlic sauce for full flavor penetration.
- Add Garnishes: Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and red pepper flakes over the fries for texture and extra heat.
- Garnish with Cilantro: Add chopped fresh cilantro for color and a fresh herbal note.
- Serve Hot: Serve the fries hot to enjoy their maximum crispiness and vibrant flavors.
Notes
- For gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce.
- Adjust the chili paste or sriracha to suit your preferred spice level.
- Oven temperatures may vary, so keep an eye on the fries near the end of baking to avoid burning.
- The honey is optional but adds a nice balance to the heat with a mild sweetness.
- For extra crispiness, soak potato fries in cold water for 30 minutes before baking, then pat dry thoroughly.
