Ingredients
Meat:
- 1 pound ground beef or turkey
- 1/2 pound smoked sausage, sliced
Vegetables:
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 green bell pepper, chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
Canned Goods:
- 1 (14.5 oz) can diced tomatoes
- 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
- 1 (15 oz) can kidney beans, drained and rinsed
- 1 (15 oz) can black beans, drained and rinsed
Spices and Seasonings:
- 1 tablespoon chili powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
Additional:
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1/2 cup beef broth or water
Instructions
- Cook Meat: In a large pot, cook ground beef or turkey over medium heat until browned. Add sliced smoked sausage and cook until lightly browned.
- Add Vegetables: Add diced onion, bell pepper, and garlic. Sauté until softened.
- Incorporate Ingredients: Stir in diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, beans, spices, salt, pepper, brown sugar, and broth. Mix well.
- Simmer: Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to low. Cover and cook for 30–45 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Adjust Seasonings: Taste and adjust seasonings. Serve hot with desired toppings.
