Description

Indulge in the comforting flavors of the South with this Southern Maple Sweet Potato Casserole. Creamy mashed sweet potatoes are sweetened with maple syrup and brown sugar, topped with a crunchy pecan topping for the perfect balance of textures and flavors.

Ingredients

Main Casserole Ingredients:

  • 4 cups mashed sweet potatoes (about 4 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cooked)
  • 1/2 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Topping:

  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare baking dish: Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  2. Mix sweet potato mixture: In a large bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, maple syrup, brown sugar, milk, eggs, melted butter, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt. Mix until smooth.
  3. Transfer to baking dish: Pour the sweet potato mixture into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.
  4. Prepare topping: In a separate bowl, mix flour, brown sugar, pecans, and softened butter until crumbly.
  5. Add topping and bake: Sprinkle the topping over the sweet potato mixture. Bake for 35–40 minutes until golden and heated through. Cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, roast the sweet potatoes instead of boiling them.
  • You can substitute half-and-half for milk for a richer texture.
