Description

These Soft Molasses Cookies are a delightful treat, perfect for the holiday season or anytime you’re craving a spiced, chewy cookie. They are easy to make and will fill your home with the warm, comforting aroma of cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves

Wet Ingredients:

  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar (for rolling)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven and prepare the baking sheet: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Add egg and molasses: Mix in the egg and molasses until well combined.
  4. Combine dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, and cloves.
  5. Combine wet and dry ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring until a soft dough forms.
  6. Form and bake the cookies: Scoop the dough into tablespoon-sized balls, roll each in granulated sugar, place on the baking sheet, and bake for 8–10 minutes until set.
  7. Cool and enjoy: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Notes

  • For extra chewiness, slightly underbake the cookies.
  • You can freeze the dough balls for up to 3 months.
