Ingredients
Dough:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
 - 1 cup granulated sugar
 - 1 large egg
 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
 - 1/2 teaspoon almond extract (optional)
 - 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
 - 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
 - 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
 
Decoration:
- Colored sprinkles or sanding sugar (for decorating)
 
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
 - Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract if using.
 - Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until fully combined.
 - Shape and decorate: Roll the dough into 1-inch balls and place on baking sheets. Flatten each ball and top with sprinkles.
 - Bake: Bake for 8–10 minutes until edges start to turn golden. Cool on the baking sheet before transferring to a wire rack.

- For a festive touch, you can frost the cookies with a simple icing made from powdered sugar and milk.
