Ingredients
Batter:
- 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¾ cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Topping:
- ¾ cup brown sugar
- 1½ cups hot water
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
- Vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F.
- Melt butter: Place the stick of butter in a 9×9-inch baking dish in the oven to melt.
- Prepare batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Combine ingredients: Pour the batter over the melted butter without stirring. Sprinkle brown sugar on top.
- Add water: Gently pour hot water over the dish without stirring. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
