Ingredients

Batter:

  • 1 stick (½ cup) unsalted butter
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon

Topping:

  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1½ cups hot water
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for topping)
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  2. Melt butter: Place the stick of butter in a 9×9-inch baking dish in the oven to melt.
  3. Prepare batter: In a mixing bowl, whisk together flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Combine ingredients: Pour the batter over the melted butter without stirring. Sprinkle brown sugar on top.
  5. Add water: Gently pour hot water over the dish without stirring. Sprinkle with cinnamon.
  6. Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes until golden brown and bubbly.

Notes
