Description

S’mores Puppy Chow is a fun, no-bake snack that’s perfect for summer gatherings and anytime you crave the classic flavors of graham cracker, chocolate, and gooey marshmallow. This sweet treat combines Chex cereal, chocolate, marshmallows, and crushed graham crackers for a crunchy, irresistible twist on traditional muddy buddies.

Ingredients

Units Scale

For the Puppy Chow Base

  • 6 cups Rice Chex cereal

For the Chocolate Coating

  • 1 1/2 cups semisweet chocolate chips
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup mini marshmallows (plus extra for garnish)

For Finishing

  • 1 1/4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup graham crackers, finely crushed
  • 1 cup Golden Grahams cereal (optional, for added graham flavor and crunch)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base: Place the Rice Chex cereal in a large mixing bowl and set aside. This will help ensure the coating process goes smoothly and all the cereal gets evenly coated.
  2. Melt the Chocolate and Butter: In a medium, microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips and unsalted butter. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until the mixture is smooth and fully melted. Stir in the mini marshmallows until partially melted and combined, creating a gooey mixture.
  3. Coat the Cereal: Pour the chocolate-marshmallow mixture over the Chex cereal. Using a spatula, gently fold until all the cereal pieces are evenly coated. Be careful not to crush the cereal.
  4. Dusting and Flavor Add-ins: In a separate large zip-top bag, add the powdered sugar and crushed graham crackers. Working in batches if necessary, add the coated cereal to the bag. Seal and shake vigorously until all pieces are well coated.
  5. Add Crunch and Serve: Pour the puppy chow onto a baking sheet or large tray in a single layer to cool slightly. Toss in the Golden Grahams cereal (if using) and sprinkle extra mini marshmallows on top for classic s’mores texture and flavor. Store in an airtight container until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Puppy chow is not suitable for pets; it’s a sweet treat for humans only.
  • Add white chocolate chips or peanut butter chips for a creative twist.
  • Work quickly after melting the chocolate; it will set as it cools.
  • This recipe can easily be doubled for parties or gifting.
