Description

Juicy smoked burgers packed with bold Cajun flavor, topped with melty cheese and fresh toppings, perfect for a quick and satisfying dinner.

Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs ground beef (80/20 blend)
  • 2 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 4 slices cheddar or pepper jack cheese
  • 4 brioche or potato burger buns
  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Pickles
  • Red onion slices (optional)
  • Mayonnaise or Cajun aioli (optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine ground beef, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, garlic powder, and onion powder. Mix just until combined.
  2. Divide mixture and form into 4 patties, pressing a small indentation in the center of each. Chill for 15–20 minutes.
  3. Preheat smoker or grill to 225°F (or medium-high heat for grilling). Cook over indirect heat until internal temp reaches 135–140°F for medium.
  4. Finish with a quick sear over high heat for a charred crust.
  5. Place cheese slices on patties during the last minute or two of cooking and cover to melt.
  6. Toast buns lightly on the grill or in a skillet.
  7. Assemble burgers with toppings and a swipe of mayo or Cajun aioli. Serve hot.

Notes

  • Use cold meat for better patty integrity.
  • Don’t overmix the meat to avoid tough burgers.
  • Indentation in patties ensures even cooking.
  • Let patties rest a few minutes after cooking for juicier burgers.
