Description

Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak Meatballs are a comforting and hearty dish made with tender ground beef meatballs simmered in a rich mushroom gravy. Made easy in the slow cooker, this recipe is perfect for a hands-off meal served over mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice.

Ingredients

For the Meatballs:

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For the Gravy:

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (10.5 ounces) cream of mushroom soup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water (optional, for thickening)
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms (optional)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Meatballs: In a large bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, onion, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix until just combined to avoid tough meatballs. Form the mixture into small meatballs approximately 1 to 1 1/2 inches in diameter.
  2. Arrange in Slow Cooker: Place the formed meatballs evenly at the bottom of a 6-quart slow cooker to ensure even cooking.
  3. Make the Gravy Mixture: In a separate bowl, whisk together beef broth, cream of mushroom soup, Worcestershire sauce, and ketchup to create a flavorful gravy base. Optionally, add sliced mushrooms for extra texture and flavor.
  4. Add Gravy to Meatballs: Pour the prepared gravy mixture over the meatballs in the slow cooker, making sure the meatballs are covered thoroughly.
  5. Cook the Meatballs: Cover and cook on low for 4 to 5 hours or on high for 2 to 3 hours, until the meatballs are fully cooked and tender.
  6. Optional Thickening: If you prefer a thicker gravy, stir in the cornstarch and water slurry during the last 30 minutes of cooking, allowing it to thicken as it finishes cooking.
  7. Serve: Serve the Salisbury steak meatballs warm, spooning extra gravy over the top. Pair with mashed potatoes, egg noodles, or rice for a comforting meal.

Notes

  • For added depth of flavor, brown the meatballs in a skillet over medium heat before adding them to the slow cooker.
  • You can use frozen pre-cooked meatballs to save time; just reduce the slow cooker cook time accordingly.
  • Adjust seasoning to taste before serving, especially if using low-sodium broth or other substitutions.
  • Serve with your favorite sides like steamed vegetables or a fresh green salad for a complete meal.
