These Slow-Cooker Barbecue Sandwiches are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that the whole family will love. Tender, flavorful pulled pork is coated in a tangy barbecue sauce and served on soft sandwich buns. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
Pork:
- 3 pounds boneless pork shoulder (trimmed of excess fat)
Sauce:
- 1 large onion (sliced),
- 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (your favorite brand)
- 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Serving:
- sandwich buns for serving
- optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, extra barbecue sauce
Instructions
- Place Onions: Place the sliced onion in the bottom of the slow cooker.
- Mix Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the barbecue sauce, chicken broth, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
- Cook Pork: Place the pork shoulder on top of the onions and pour the sauce mixture over it. Cook on low for 8–10 hours or on high for 4–5 hours until tender.
- Shred Pork: Remove the pork, shred it using two forks, then return it to the slow cooker and stir to coat with the sauce.
- Serve: Serve the barbecue pork on sandwich buns with desired toppings.
Notes
- For a spicier version, add hot sauce or red pepper flakes to the sauce.
- This recipe can be made with chicken or beef as well.
- Leftovers freeze well for up to 3 months.
