Description

These Slow-Cooker Barbecue Sandwiches are a delicious and easy-to-make meal that the whole family will love. Tender, flavorful pulled pork is coated in a tangy barbecue sauce and served on soft sandwich buns. Perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.


Ingredients

Pork:

  • 3 pounds boneless pork shoulder (trimmed of excess fat)

Sauce:

  • 1 large onion (sliced),
  • 1 1/2 cups barbecue sauce (your favorite brand)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth or water
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Serving:

  • sandwich buns for serving
  • optional toppings: coleslaw, pickles, extra barbecue sauce

Instructions

  1. Place Onions: Place the sliced onion in the bottom of the slow cooker.
  2. Mix Sauce: In a small bowl, mix the barbecue sauce, chicken broth, brown sugar, vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, paprika, salt, and pepper.
  3. Cook Pork: Place the pork shoulder on top of the onions and pour the sauce mixture over it. Cook on low for 8–10 hours or on high for 4–5 hours until tender.
  4. Shred Pork: Remove the pork, shred it using two forks, then return it to the slow cooker and stir to coat with the sauce.
  5. Serve: Serve the barbecue pork on sandwich buns with desired toppings.

Notes

  • For a spicier version, add hot sauce or red pepper flakes to the sauce.
  • This recipe can be made with chicken or beef as well.
  • Leftovers freeze well for up to 3 months.
