Ingredients
Sliders
- 1 dozen Hawaiian dinner rolls
- 2 lb ground beef
- 1 (1.31-oz) packet Sloppy Joe Seasoning
- ¼ cup water
- ¾ cup BBQ sauce
- 1 (8-oz) can tomato sauce
- 8 slices American cheese
Topping Sauce
- ½ cup butter
- 2 Tbsp brown sugar
- 1 Tbsp dijon mustard
- 1 Tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1½ tsp sesame seeds
Instructions
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to prepare for baking the sliders.
- Cook the beef: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the ground beef until it’s browned and no longer pink, then drain off any excess grease to keep the mixture from being too oily.
- Simmer the sauce: Add the Sloppy Joe seasoning packet, tomato sauce, BBQ sauce, and water into the skillet with the cooked beef. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and let it simmer for 5 to 10 minutes to meld the flavors.
- Prepare the rolls: Without separating them, slice the entire loaf of Hawaiian rolls horizontally. Place the bottom half of the rolls into a 9×13-inch baking dish. Evenly spread the sloppy joe mixture over the roll bottoms, then layer American cheese slices on top. Cover with the top halves of the rolls.
- Make the glaze: In a small saucepan, combine butter, brown sugar, Dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and sesame seeds. Bring this mixture to a boil to fully combine the flavors and dissolve the sugar.
- Bake the sliders: Pour the warm glaze evenly over the assembled sandwiches. Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 30 minutes, or until the tops of the sliders are golden brown and crispy.
Notes
- Using Hawaiian rolls gives the sliders a sweet, soft texture that balances the savory beef.
- Draining the ground beef prevents the sliders from becoming soggy.
- You can substitute American cheese with cheddar or your preferred melting cheese.
- Let the sliders rest for a few minutes after baking to allow the flavors to settle and the cheese to set slightly.
- If you prefer a spicier version, add a pinch of cayenne pepper or hot sauce to the meat mixture.
