Ingredients
Filling
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 1 green bell pepper, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ¾ cup ketchup
- 2 tablespoons tomato paste
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon yellow mustard
- Salt and pepper to taste
Assembly
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 6 large flour tortillas
- Nonstick cooking spray or a little oil for grilling
Instructions
- Cook the Beef Mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onion, and green bell pepper until the beef is browned and the vegetables are softened, about 6–8 minutes. Drain any excess fat.
- Add Garlic and Sauce: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for 1 minute until fragrant. Then add ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, yellow mustard, salt, and pepper. Stir well and simmer the mixture for 5–7 minutes until it thickens slightly. Remove from heat.
- Assemble Burritos: Lay out each flour tortilla flat. Spoon about ½ cup of the sloppy joe mixture into the center of each tortilla. Sprinkle with shredded cheddar cheese. Fold in the sides of each tortilla and roll tightly to enclose the filling.
- Grill the Burritos: Heat a clean skillet or grill pan over medium heat and lightly coat with nonstick cooking spray or oil. Place each burrito seam-side down in the pan and grill for 2–3 minutes per side until the tortillas are golden brown and crispy.
- Serve: Remove the grilled burritos from the pan and serve warm. Enjoy as is or with your favorite toppings like pickled jalapeños, sour cream, or shredded lettuce.
Notes
- You can add extras like pickled jalapeños, sour cream, or shredded lettuce before folding to personalize your burrito.
- Ground turkey or a plant-based meat substitute can be used instead of ground beef for a lighter or vegetarian option.
