Description

A quick and flavorful stir fry featuring tender shrimp and crisp broccoli coated in a savory garlic sauce with a hint of sweetness and spice.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp paprika
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil (divided)
  • 3 cups broccoli florets (including peeled and sliced stems)
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp ginger, minced
  • 3-4 dried red chilies (optional)
  • 1/4 cup water (for steaming broccoli)
  • 2 tbsp oyster sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp dark soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp hoisin sauce
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 1 tsp cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Pat shrimp dry and toss with salt, paprika, pepper, and 1 tbsp oil. Set aside to marinate.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together water, sugar, oyster sauce, soy sauce, dark soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and cornstarch. Set aside.
  3. Cut broccoli into florets, peel and slice stems. Mince garlic and ginger. Break dried chilies if using.
  4. Heat wok over high heat until smoking. Add 1 tbsp oil and stir-fry shrimp until pink. Remove and set aside.
  5. In the same wok, sauté garlic, ginger, chilies, and broccoli for 2 minutes until fragrant and slightly charred.
  6. Add a splash of water, cover, and steam broccoli briefly.
  7. Pour in the prepared sauce, return shrimp, and stir-fry until sauce thickens and shrimp is cooked through.
  8. Serve hot over rice or noodles, garnished with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.

Notes

  • Add sliced bell peppers, snow peas, or mushrooms for variety.
  • For more heat, use chili garlic sauce or extra chilies.
  • Swap shrimp for chicken, tofu, or scallops as desired.
  • To make it gluten-free, use tamari and check sauces for gluten content.
