These savory spinach and feta puff pastry bites are a delightful appetizer featuring a flavorful combination of spinach, onions, garlic, and feta cheese encased in flaky puff pastry. Perfect for entertaining or as a tasty snack.
Ingredients
Puff Pastry:
- 1 sheet frozen puff pastry, thawed
Spinach Filling:
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped (or 1 cup frozen, thawed and drained)
- ½ teaspoon dried oregano
- ¼ teaspoon salt
- ¼ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ cup crumbled feta cheese
Additional:
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Sesame seeds or poppy seeds for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Sauté Onion and Garlic: In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the onion in olive oil until soft. Add garlic and cook for 30 seconds.
- Add Spinach and Feta: Stir in spinach, oregano, salt, and pepper. Cook until wilted. Remove from heat, let cool slightly, then mix in feta.
- Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out puff pastry, cut into squares, spoon spinach-feta mixture onto each square, fold corners or leave open-faced.
- Bake: Brush with beaten egg, sprinkle with seeds if desired, and bake for 15–18 minutes until golden.
- Serve: Serve warm or at room temperature.
Notes
- These bites can be made ahead and baked just before serving.
- Add a pinch of red pepper flakes for a touch of heat.
