Ingredients
- 6 frozen or homemade thick waffles, toasted and cubed
- 1 lb breakfast sausage
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 6 large eggs
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/4 tsp freshly ground black pepper
- Butter, for greasing
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish with butter.
- Brown sausage in a skillet over medium heat, breaking it into crumbles. Drain excess fat and set aside.
- Toast waffles until lightly crisp. Let cool, then cut into cubes.
- In a large bowl, whisk eggs, milk, maple syrup, salt, and pepper until well combined.
- Layer half the waffle cubes in the dish, top with half the sausage and cheese. Repeat with remaining waffles, sausage, and cheese.
- Pour the egg mixture evenly over the layers. Press down gently to soak.
- Bake uncovered for 40-45 minutes or until set and golden. Let rest 5-10 minutes before serving.
