A hearty and delicious Sausage, Egg, and Cheese Breakfast recipe featuring perfectly scrambled eggs, flavorful cooked sausage, and melted cheddar cheese. This versatile breakfast can be served as a comforting plate or assembled into sandwiches using buns, English muffins, or tortillas, making it perfect for busy mornings or weekend brunch.
Ingredients
Breakfast Components
- 1 lb breakfast sausage (pork, turkey, or your choice)
- 6 large eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (or any cheese of your choice)
- 1 tablespoon butter
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika (optional)
Serving (Optional)
- 4 breakfast sandwich buns, English muffins, or tortillas
Instructions
- Cook the Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, add the breakfast sausage and break it apart with a spatula. Cook until the sausage is browned and cooked through, about 7-8 minutes. Drain any excess grease from the skillet and set the cooked sausage aside.
- Scramble the Eggs: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika if using. Heat a tablespoon of butter in a nonstick skillet over medium-low heat. Pour in the egg mixture and gently stir with a spatula, allowing the eggs to cook slowly and evenly until they reach your preferred consistency. Remove from heat.
- Assemble the Breakfast: If serving sandwiches, toast the buns or warm the tortillas in a separate skillet. Layer the cooked sausage, scrambled eggs, and shredded cheese on the buns or tortillas. To melt the cheese, optionally place the assembled sandwich under a broiler for 1-2 minutes until the cheese is bubbly and slightly browned.
- Serve: Serve the sausage, egg, and cheese warm either plated or as assembled sandwiches wrapped in tortillas or on toasted buns or muffins.
Notes
- You can substitute the sausage with turkey or plant-based options for different dietary preferences.
- Garlic powder and paprika are optional but add extra flavor to the eggs.
- For a lower fat version, use turkey sausage and reduced-fat cheese.
- To prep ahead, cook sausage and scramble eggs separately, then assemble just before serving.
- Try adding vegetables like spinach or bell peppers to the eggs for added nutrition.
