Description

This simple roasted garlic recipe enhances the mellow, sweet flavor of garlic by slow roasting it in the oven until golden and tender. Perfect as a spread, addition to sauces, or flavor booster for many dishes, this easy method results in rich, caramelized garlic that is soft and spreadable.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 heads garlic
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare for Roasting: Preheat your oven to 400℉ (200℃). Slice about ½ inch off the top of each garlic head, just enough to expose the tops of the cloves. This step allows the olive oil and heat to penetrate and roast the garlic evenly without drying it out.
  2. Season the Garlic: Place each garlic head on a piece of aluminum foil. Drizzle ½ tablespoon of olive oil evenly over each exposed garlic head and then sprinkle a pinch of salt on top. Wrap the foil tightly around each garlic head to create a sealed packet that will trap steam during roasting.
  3. Roast to Perfection: Place the foil-wrapped garlic heads on a baking sheet or pan and roast in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes. The garlic is done when the cloves turn golden brown and become soft enough to squeeze out easily from their skins. Allow the garlic to cool before handling. The roasted garlic should have a spreadable, buttery texture and a sweet, mild flavor.

Notes

  • Use fresh, firm garlic heads for the best results.
  • Roasted garlic can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 1 week or frozen for longer storage.
  • The caramelized roasted garlic is excellent spread on bread, mixed into mashed potatoes, or stirred into soups and sauces.
  • Adjust roasting time slightly if your oven runs hot or if your garlic heads are particularly large or small.
