Description

A delicious and comforting side dish featuring roasted sweet potatoes and apples seasoned with warm cinnamon, nutmeg, and a touch of maple syrup, perfect for fall or anytime you crave a naturally sweet and spiced dish.

Ingredients

Ingredients

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 large apples, cored and cubed
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon maple syrup
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking mat to prevent sticking and facilitate easy cleanup.
  2. Prepare Sweet Potatoes and Apples: In a large bowl, combine the peeled and cubed sweet potatoes with the cored and cubed apples. Drizzle the olive oil over them and toss well to coat everything evenly.
  3. Season: Sprinkle ground cinnamon, ground nutmeg, salt, and black pepper evenly over the sweet potatoes and apples. Drizzle the maple syrup on top and toss the mixture again to distribute the seasonings and syrup thoroughly.
  4. Roast: Spread the seasoned sweet potatoes and apples in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet. Roast in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, stirring halfway through the cooking time, until the sweet potatoes are tender and apples have caramelized beautifully.
  5. Serve: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the roasted sweet potatoes and apples to cool for a few minutes before serving. This dish is best enjoyed warm.

Notes

  • You can use any variety of apples, but firmer apples like Granny Smith or Honeycrisp hold their shape better during roasting.
  • Stirring halfway through roasting ensures even cooking and caramelization.
  • Adjust the amount of maple syrup to taste for more or less sweetness.
  • This dish pairs wonderfully with roasted meats or as a vegetarian main course side.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 3 days and reheated gently.
