Ingredients
Main Ingredients:
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/2 teaspoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- Red gel food coloring (as needed for vibrant color)
- 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Optional for Decorating:
- White chocolate drizzle or sprinkles
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add wet ingredients: Beat in the egg, vanilla extract, vinegar, and cocoa powder until fully combined.
- Color the dough: Add red food coloring gradually until the desired red velvet shade is reached.
- Mix dry ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour and salt, then gradually mix it into the wet ingredients until a soft dough forms.
- Use a cookie press: Load the dough into a cookie press fitted with your favorite shape plate. Press cookies onto an ungreased baking sheet, spacing about 1 inch apart.
- Bake: Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, or until the edges are just set.
- Cool and decorate: Let cool on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to a wire rack. Once completely cool, drizzle with melted white chocolate or add sprinkles if desired.
Notes
- Use gel food coloring for richer color without thinning the dough.
- These cookies freeze well and are great for gifting or holiday trays.
- If you don’t have a cookie press, you can roll the dough into balls and press gently with a fork.
