Description

These Protein Cinnamon Rolls are a delicious and nutritious twist on the classic cinnamon roll, combining oat flour and protein powder for a wholesome treat. Sweetened naturally with applesauce and honey, they are perfect for a healthy breakfast or snack that satisfies your cinnamon roll cravings without the guilt.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup oat flour
  • 1/2 cup protein powder
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 2 tbsp honey

Optional Icing

  • Protein powder
  • Milk (quantity as needed to drizzle)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a baking dish to prevent the rolls from sticking.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, combine the oat flour, protein powder, baking powder, and cinnamon evenly.
  3. Combine Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, mix together the unsweetened applesauce and honey until well blended.
  4. Form the Dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms and all ingredients are incorporated evenly.
  5. Roll and Slice: Lightly flour a clean surface with oat flour, roll the dough into a log shape, then carefully slice it into 8 even rolls.
  6. Bake: Place the cinnamon rolls into the prepared baking dish and bake in the oven for about 20 minutes or until the rolls turn golden brown.
  7. Optional Icing: Mix protein powder with enough milk to create a drizzle-able icing and drizzle over the warm rolls for an extra sweet finish.
  8. Serve: Serve the protein cinnamon rolls warm and enjoy their soft, flavorful taste.

Notes

  • You can substitute the oat flour with a gluten-free flour blend if desired.
  • Adjust the cinnamon quantity to fit your taste preference.
  • For a dairy-free icing, use plant-based milk alternatives.
  • These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be stored airtight for up to 2 days.
  • Reheat gently before serving to restore softness.
