Description

Enjoy these delicious pizza stuffed waffle snacks that combine the crispiness of waffles with your favorite pizza flavors. Perfect as a quick snack or party appetizer, these easy-to-make treats feature gooey mozzarella, savory pepperoni, and classic Italian seasoning all wrapped in golden, crispy dough made right in your waffle iron.

Ingredients

Pizza Filling

  • 1/2 cup pizza sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup mini pepperoni or chopped regular pepperoni
  • 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning

Dough & Finishing

  • 1 package refrigerated pizza dough or crescent roll dough
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil or melted butter (for brushing)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the waffle iron: Preheat your waffle iron and lightly grease it with cooking spray or oil to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the stuffed snacks.
  2. Prepare the dough rectangles: Roll out the pizza dough and cut it into even rectangles approximately the size of your waffle iron’s sections to ensure proper cooking and stuffing fit.
  3. Add the pizza filling: On half of the dough rectangles, spread a spoonful of pizza sauce in the center. Then layer with shredded mozzarella cheese, pepperoni pieces, and sprinkle Italian seasoning evenly on top.
  4. Seal the pockets: Place a second dough rectangle over each filled one and press the edges firmly to seal the filling inside. Use a fork to crimp the edges if needed to prevent leakage during cooking.
  5. Cook in waffle iron: Place the stuffed dough pockets into the heated waffle iron and cook for about 3 to 5 minutes, or until they turn golden brown and crispy on the outside.
  6. Finish and serve: Carefully remove the cooked snacks from the waffle iron. Brush the tops with olive oil or melted butter for extra flavor and shine. Let them cool slightly before serving with additional pizza sauce for dipping.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add finely chopped fresh basil or oregano to the filling.
  • You can substitute pepperoni with other toppings like cooked sausage, mushrooms, or olives.
  • If you prefer a crispier texture, cook for an additional minute or two, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  • Use a silicone brush to apply oil or butter evenly on the waffle snacks.
  • Make sure to seal the edges well to prevent filling from leaking out during cooking.
