Description
This Pizza Quiche combines the rich flavors of a traditional pizza with the creamy, custardy texture of a quiche. Featuring a deep-dish pie crust filled with sausage, pepperoni, tomato paste, and mozzarella cheese, it’s a savory dish perfect for brunch or a hearty meal.
Ingredients
Crust
- 1 (9-inch) deep-dish frozen pie crust
Meat and Cheese
- ½ lb sausage
- â…“ cup chopped pepperoni
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1½ Tbsp tomato paste
Custard Mixture
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 3 large eggs
- 3 Tbsp sour cream
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- ¼ tsp garlic powder
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF to ensure it’s hot enough for baking the quiche evenly.
- Cook Sausage: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the sausage until it is well browned, stirring frequently to break apart the meat. Once cooked, drain off any excess grease to prevent the quiche from becoming too oily. Stir in the tomato paste with the cooked sausage to infuse a deep, tangy flavor.
- Assemble Meat Layer: Spread the sausage and tomato paste mixture evenly over the bottom of the frozen pie crust. Sprinkle the chopped pepperoni on top of the sausage layer, followed by the shredded mozzarella cheese, creating a layered filling reminiscent of pizza toppings.
- Prepare Custard: In a medium bowl, whisk together the eggs, heavy cream, sour cream, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder until the mixture is smooth and well combined. This custard will bind the ingredients and provide a creamy texture.
- Pour Custard and Bake: Pour the custard evenly over the meat and cheese filling in the pie crust. Place the quiche in the preheated oven and bake for 1 hour, or until the custard is set and the top is lightly golden.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the quiche from the oven and allow it to rest for 5-10 minutes. This resting time allows the quiche to firm up for easier slicing and enhances the flavors before serving.
Notes
- You can substitute Italian sausage with spicy sausage if you prefer more heat.
- Make sure to drain the grease thoroughly from the sausage to avoid a soggy crust.
- Allow the quiche to cool slightly before slicing to ensure clean cuts.
- Feel free to add vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms for additional flavor and texture.
- Use a deep-dish pie crust to hold all the rich fillings comfortably.
