Description
A delicious and easy-to-make Pizza Burger Pie that combines the flavors of a classic cheeseburger and a pizza into one savory pie. Ground beef cooked with pizza sauce and Italian seasonings is layered inside a crescent roll crust, topped with mozzarella, cheddar cheese, and optional pepperoni, then baked to golden perfection.
Ingredients
Meat and Sauce
- 1 lb ground beef
- 1/2 cup onion, diced
- 1 can (14 oz) pizza sauce
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
Cheese
- 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Crust and Toppings
- 1 package (8 oz) refrigerated crescent roll dough
- 1/4 cup sliced pepperoni (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9-inch pie dish or a similarly sized baking dish to prevent sticking.
- Cook the beef mixture: In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and diced onion until the beef is browned and the onions are softened, approximately 5-7 minutes. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
- Add seasonings and simmer: Stir in the pizza sauce, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning into the beef mixture. Allow it to simmer gently for about 2 minutes, then remove the skillet from the heat.
- Assemble the crust: Unroll the crescent roll dough and press it firmly into the bottom and up the sides of the greased pie dish, creating a crust that fully covers the base and sides. Press and seal the seams of the dough together to form one cohesive crust.
- Layer beef mixture: Evenly spread the cooked beef and pizza sauce mixture over the crescent dough crust in the pie dish.
- Add cheese and pepperoni: Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly atop the beef mixture. If using, distribute the sliced pepperoni on top of the cheese layer.
- Bake the pie: Place the assembled pie in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the crust turns golden brown and the cheese is fully melted and bubbly.
- Cool and serve: Remove the pizza burger pie from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve warm for a flavorful and comforting meal.
Notes
- You can omit the pepperoni to make the dish more of a classic cheeseburger flavor.
- Feel free to add other pizza toppings like mushrooms, bell peppers, or olives for extra variety.
- If you prefer a crispier crust, bake a few minutes longer but watch to avoid burning.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated the next day for a quick meal.
- Use low-fat cheese options to reduce calories and fat content if desired.
