Description
These Pie Crust Cinnamon Rolls are an easy, delicious twist on traditional cinnamon rolls, using ready-made or homemade pie crust for a quick and flaky pastry base. Rolled with a buttery cinnamon sugar filling and topped with a sweet vanilla glaze, they bake up golden and perfect for breakfast or a cozy snack.
Ingredients
Pie Crust Dough
- 1 package refrigerated pie crusts (or homemade pie crust, 2 sheets)
Filling
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 tbsp ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp salt
Glaze
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2 tbsp milk (or more for desired consistency)
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or lightly grease it to prevent sticking.
- Prepare the Pie Crust: Lay the pie crust flat on a clean surface. Use a rolling pin to gently smooth out any wrinkles for an even surface.
- Make the Filling: Spread the softened unsalted butter evenly over the entire surface of the pie crust.
- Mix and Sprinkle the Cinnamon Sugar: In a small bowl, combine brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the buttered crust for an even flavor distribution.
- Roll the Crust: Starting at one edge, carefully roll up the pie crust into a tight log to encase the filling, taking care to avoid spilling.
- Cut the Rolls: Using a sharp knife or dental floss, slice the rolled dough into one-inch thick individual rolls and place them spaced on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake the Rolls: Bake in the preheated oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the rolls turn golden brown and are cooked through.
- Make the Glaze: While the rolls bake, whisk together powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl. Adjust milk quantity to achieve a smooth, drizzle-friendly consistency.
- Glaze the Rolls: Once baked, remove the cinnamon rolls from the oven, allow to cool slightly, then drizzle the glaze generously over the warm rolls.
- Serve: Serve these pie crust cinnamon rolls warm to enjoy their flaky texture and sweet cinnamon flavor at their best.
Notes
- You can use homemade pie crust for a more buttery and flaky texture.
- For a thinner glaze, add milk gradually until desired consistency is reached.
- Use dental floss instead of a knife to cut rolls cleanly without squashing them.
- These rolls are best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated gently before serving.
