Description

A delicious twist on classic Philly cheesesteak, this garlic bread features tender, thinly sliced ribeye steak cooked with sautéed bell peppers, onions, and garlic, topped with melted provolone or mozzarella cheese on a crispy garlic butter-spread baguette.

Ingredients

Meat and Vegetables

  • 1 pound ribeye steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small yellow onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Bread and Dairy

  • 1 large baguette or loaf of Italian bread, sliced lengthwise
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened

Seasonings and Oils

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon chopped parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for baking.
  2. Cook the steak: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the thinly sliced steak, seasoning it with salt, black pepper, and Worcestershire sauce. Sear the steak until just cooked through, about 2–3 minutes, then remove from the skillet and set aside.
  3. Sauté vegetables: In the same skillet, add the sliced green bell pepper, yellow onion, and minced garlic. Cook them until they are soft and caramelized, about 5–6 minutes. Return the cooked steak to the skillet and stir to combine well with the vegetables.
  4. Prepare garlic butter: In a small bowl, whisk together the softened unsalted butter, garlic powder, and chopped parsley until evenly mixed.
  5. Assemble the bread: Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over both cut sides of the bread. Place the bread halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Add toppings: Evenly distribute the steak and pepper mixture on top of the buttered bread, then generously sprinkle with shredded provolone or mozzarella cheese.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes until the cheese melts and becomes bubbly. For an extra golden and crispy cheese topping, broil for an additional 1–2 minutes if desired.
  8. Serve: Remove from the oven, slice into portions, and serve warm as a satisfying main course or appetizer.

Notes

  • For a spicy variation, add sliced jalapeños or a dash of your favorite hot sauce to the meat and vegetable mixture before baking.
  • This recipe works well as a party appetizer or a hearty game-day main dish.
  • Use either provolone or mozzarella based on your preference for a mild or more melting cheese texture.
