Description

These Peanut Butter Rice Krispie Treats are a nostalgic, no-bake dessert bar that combines gooey marshmallows, creamy peanut butter, and crisp Rice Krispies cereal. Sweet, satisfying, and easy to make, they’re perfect for lunchboxes, potlucks, or anytime you crave a quick homemade treat.

Ingredients

Units Scale

Cereal Base

  • 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Marshmallow Mixture

  • 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 (10-ounce) bag mini marshmallows (about 51/2 cups)

Optional Topping

  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips, melted (optional for drizzling)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Pan – Line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment or lightly grease it. This prevents sticking and makes removal easier.
  2. Melt Butter and Peanut Butter – In a large pot over medium heat, melt the butter and peanut butter together, stirring until smooth and combined.
  3. Add Marshmallows – Stir in the mini marshmallows and cook, stirring constantly, until completely melted and gooey.
  4. Mix in Cereal – Remove the pot from heat. Immediately add the Rice Krispies cereal and gently fold until uniformly coated with the marshmallow-peanut butter mixture.
  5. Press into Pan – Transfer the mixture into the prepared pan. Use a greased spatula or wax paper to press it into an even layer—don’t compact it too much or your treats will be dense.
  6. Add Optional Chocolate Drizzle – If desired, drizzle melted chocolate over the top. Let set for 10 minutes for the chocolate to firm up.
  7. Cool and Slice – Allow treats to cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then slice into bars and serve.

Notes

  • For chewier treats, avoid overcooking the marshmallow mixture.
  • Try chunky peanut butter for extra texture.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 3 days at room temperature.
  • For a vegan version, use vegan butter and marshmallows.
